Smithfield American Legion Post 49 Organizing Vietnam Veterans Recognition Event
To demonstrate current public appreciation for the sacrifices of our veterans that served during the Vietnam War and in Vietnam, the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 established March 29th as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. Its intention is to raise public awareness of those that served in our Armed Forces between November 1, 1955 and May 15, 1975, regardless of location, in order to express national appreciation for their service to our Country.
A luncheon and program on March 31st honoring Vietnam War Veterans in Hampton Roads is being organized by Smithfield, Virginia American Legion Post 49. This event will begin at 2:00 PM on Sunday the March 31st at the Smithfield Center in Smithfield, Virginia. All Vietnam era veterans are invited to join Post 49 for a buffet luncheon provided by Smithfield Foods, a guest speaker, recognition of those in the region that died in Vietnam, and a chance to share comradeship. The anticipated attendance at this event is approximately 150-200 veterans, family members, and members of the public.
The luncheon and program are free to all attendees but Post 49 is currently soliciting sponsorships and personal contributions to help defray the cost of this event. Please notify Dr. Thomas Mastaglio if you are interested or willing to support the event - email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
