This is Eric Gardner ’85 and a Realtor with RE/MAX Alliance in Virginia Beach.  I recently closed on a house with a dual-Navy couple stationed at NAS Oceana that I worked with since December.  It was a very nice home in Courthouse Estates – 4 Br/2.5 Ba, single-story ranch that was a short sale.

The primary criteria for this family was four bedrooms, single-story, and near Corporate Landing, since they have a three-year-old son with quadriplegic cerebral palsy and Corporate Landing is the primary school in Virginia Beach for those exceptional children.

With my on-going partnership with the Veterans Real Estate Benefits Network, I provided a Rewards check of $2051 to LS1 Deardre Bebeau last week.  However, there are numerous other modifications and adaptations that the Bebeau’s will need to complete in the home to allow their son’s physical therapy and movement apparatuses to move freely in the home, to include new flooring, and several other items that were not completed since it was a short sale.

The Navy medical system provides the Bebeaus with most of the apparatuses they require.  As you may know, the Department of Veterans Affairs will fund home adaptations and modifications for Veterans with disabling factors, but neither DoD nor VA have programs for home modifications for exceptional children of Service members.

After presenting the VREB check to LS1 Bebeau - https://www.facebook.com/ericgardnerremaxrealtor/, I decided to try a GoFundMe page to see if I could raise an additional $5000 to assist with the modifications they will need to do with the home for their son - https://www.gofundme.com/bebeau-home-adaptation

This is not something that I would normally do, but watching AO2 Daniel Bebeau and LS1 Deardre Bebeau cope with the challenges of buying a short sale, preparing for Daniel’s second deployment in a year, and the constant supervision required for their son, I was compelled to do more.  I know we all have favorite charities and causes that we hold true for, but I hope that you consider this local Navy couple for your support.  Thank you.
