Our speaker this month

Rylan Tuohy

Rylan is a Civil Engineer Corps officer currently stationed in Norfolk, VA. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and University of Maryland, College Park, Rylan holds a Bachelor of Science in applied physics and a Master of Engineering in project management.

As a Midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy, Rylan was a varsity offshore sailor and a Men's Glee Club member. In his spare time, he created Navy "Spirit Spots" which have collected over 11.5M views on YouTube with live appearances on CBS, ESPN, and Fox News, and even a television interview on "Fox and Friends."

During Rylan's Firstie year at USNA, he was accepted into the Voluntary Graduate Education Program (VGEP) to attend the University of Maryland, College Park for graduate school. Upon commissioning in May 2016, Rylan completed his graduate work in December 2016.

In January 2017, Rylan attended the Civil Engineer Corps Officer School (CECOS) Basic in Port Hueneme, CA. Following his months in CECOS Basic, he reported in May 2017 to Portsmouth, VA at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard for his first Naval Facilities tour in the Public Works Department (PWD). While at the PWD, he first served as the Installation Energy Manager leading a budget of over $200M while implementing the Navy's energy policy at the shipyard and later transitioned to Construction Management where he now handles the daily operations of over a dozen projects.

Rylan looks for ways to contiue his filmmaking passion alongside his service in the Navy, and, in May 2019, he will move to his next command of Amphibious Construction Battalion One in Coronado, CA.
