NOTE: This month's meeting is the second Wednesday, rather than the usual third Wednesday of the month.

All USNA alumni, alumni from other service academies, and their guests are welcome to our Joint Service Academy Networking Breakfast.

Join us for some early morning camaraderie, support for local area service academy alumni, and networking. There is no cost to attend, but please register to let us know you'll be there.

Our speaker this month

CAPT Joshua Kinnear, Operations Officer for COMNAVAIRLANT, will be speaking on the state of Naval Aviation.

CAPT Kinnear, a native of Norfolk, Virginia, graduated with distinction in May 1997 from the U. S. Naval Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering.  He reported to Aviation Schools Command in September 1997, and he, subsequently, was designated a Naval Aviator in March 1999.

After Fleet Replacement Pilot Training, he reported to HM-14 for his initial sea duty assignment.  At HM-14, he qualified as an Aircraft Commander, AMCM Mission Commander, Functional Check Pilot, Assistant NATOPS Instructor and AMCM Instructor Pilot.  Ground duties included Legal Officer, Line and Aircraft Division Officer, and NATOPS Officer.  During this tour, he deployed twice to the COMFIFTHFLT AOR in direct support of Operations SOUTHERN WATCH, ENDURING FREEDOM, and IRAQI FREEDOM.  He was directly involved in mine clearance operations and logistics support missions to Southern Iraq during the initial phase of IRAQI FREEDOM.

In August 2003, he reported to AWSTS for duty as a FRS Instructor Pilot.  He served in the capacity as Tactics Officer, CNAL NATOPS Pilot Evaluator, and command ADMIN Officer.  It was during this tour he was qualified as one of the first Sea Dragon Weapons/Tactics Instructors (SWTI) in the HM community.

In May 2006, he reported back to HM-14 as one of the Squadron’s initial WTIs.  He deployed twice to the COMNAVSOUTH AOR.  He was awarded a Master of Arts in National Security and JPME Phase I from the Naval War College distance education program.

In June 2008, he reported to HM-15 for duty as a Squadron Department Head.  During this tour, he served as Mine Countermeasures (MCM) Maintenance Officer, Detachment Officer in Charge and Aircraft Maintenance Officer.   He served as Detachment Officer in Charge for the squadron’s forward deployed 4 aircraft detachment in the COMFIFTHFLT AOR.  In the wake of a devastating earthquake in the nation of Haiti, he was hand selected to serve as Detachment Officer in Charge for a two aircraft detachment onboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) in direct support of Operation UNIFIED RESPONSE.

In June 2010, he reported to the Navy Personnel Command for duty as the HSC/HM Community Air Combat Placement Officer.  He also served as Assistant Captain Detailer.

In August 2013, he assumed duties as Executive Officer of HM-14.  He subsequently assumed command of HM-14 in October 2014 and led them until February 2016.  Subsequently, he reported onboard COMNAVAIRLANT in February 2016 as the Rotary Wing Operations Officer for the Atlantic Fleet.  He is currently serving as the Operations Officer at COMNAVAIRLANT.
